Welcome to Catholic apologetics, led by Dr. Jim Dobbins, Author of Take My Hand: A personal retreat companion. In these lessons we look at the different truths of Catholic doctrine and why we know they are true. We also discuss spiritual growth, examine the liturgy of the Catholic Mass and do scripture studies. Please encourage your friends to listen. I also encourage you to leave a comment about our podcasts. I post any related document files, which can be downloaded from our web site at http://yorked.podomatic.com.

We are now studying the letters of St. Paul. This class is on Paul's letter to the Galatians. I also recommend you get a marvelous CD titled Welcome to the Catholic Church, from Harmony Media. This CD can be ordered from Ignatius Press, the 101 Foundation, or from your local Catholic book store (ex: http://realcatholic.com/ in Richmond, Va). This CD is a huge treasure trove of material on the Catholic Church, including two searchable bibles, the Catechisms, Council documents, and many, many other documents. I highly recommend it, and it is a genuine bargain.
Please invite your friends to join us.

With this lesson, we complete our study of the Letter to the Ephesians. Our next class will begin our study of Paul’s Letter to the Galatians.

Prayer for Monday night, Nov 3, 2008: Heavenly Father, Why is this night unlike any other night? On this night we pray that with your leave our Holy Mother, Queen of Angels, will amass her army of holy angels, St. Michael the Archangel and all the Archangels of heaven, all the heavenly Cherubim, Seraphim, Powers, Principalities, Thrones, Dominations, the Guardian Angel of the United States, the Guardian Angels of each state, and the Guardian Angels of every individual in the United States, born and unborn, and the Guardian Angels of every child who has ever been aborted, and send them across the United States, into every region and corner of this country. And reminiscent of the angels at the first Passover, let them drive out every evil demon from this nation, which is consecrated to Our Mother under her Immaculate Conception and as Our Lady of the Americas, so that as we vote for the next President of the United States, we may vote to transform our nation to a nation under God, a nation that turns away from the culture of death and depravity, and by your grace help us be transformed into a nation that turns toward a culture of life and virtue and holiness, accepting the will of God as our most important priority, and obedience to His will as our most sacred treasure. We ask this in the name of Our Lord Jesus Christ, your Only-begotten Son, and through the intercession of Padre Pio, patron saint of the unborn children. Amen

Welcome to Catholic apologetics, led by Dr. Jim Dobbins, Author of Take My Hand: A personal retreat companion.
Theology of the Body - Class 14

Welcome to Catholic apologetics, led by Dr. Jim Dobbins, Author of Take My Hand: A personal retreat companion. We have been studying John Paul II’s Theology of the Body, probably the most important catechesis of the Church in the past 300 years. This class is our second to last class in this series. We are using the actual homilies of John Paul II given during his Wednesday audiences. Each is fairly short and we will cover multiple teachings in each lesson. You can download the audiences of John Paul II by going to http://www.EWTN.com, and doing a document library search on Theology of the Body. There are a total of 129 audiences. You can also find the documents on a marvelous CD titled Welcome to the Catholic Church, from Harmony Media.
I also invite you to visit Meg Jaworowski's bible study class which can be found at http://www.catholicbiblebootcamp.com and http://catholicbiblebootcamp.podomatic.com.

In two weeks we will begin a new topic series. Please let me know if there is a subject important to you that you would like covered. Please also let me know if you have any questions about the lessons we have covered.

<itunes:summary>Welcome to Catholic apologetics, led by Dr.

We are studying John Paul II’s Theology of the Body.
I also invite you to visit Meg Jaworowski's bible study class which can be found at http://www.catholicbiblebootcamp.com and http://catholicbiblebootcamp.podomatic.com.

We also discuss the Immaculate Conception in light of the nuptial meaning of the body, and why Mary had to be preserved from Original Sin in order for her to be able to make the only proper Nuptial gift of her body that was fitting for the spouse of the Holy Spirit and the Mother of God, and why no woman afflicted by Original Sin could have made a fiting gift of herself in light of what we have been studying about the Nuptial Meaning of the Body. We also discuss the impact of death on the generative meaning of the body.

<itunes:summary>Welcome to Catholic apologetics, led by Dr.

We are conducting our 2008 Summer program, a study of John Paul II’s Theology of the Body. We are using the actual homilies of John Paul II given during his Wednesday audiences. Each is fairly short and we will cover multiple teachings in each lesson. You can download the homilies of John Paul II by going to http://www.EWTN.com, and doing a document library search on Theology of the Body. There are a total of 129 homilies. You can also find the documents on a marvelous CD titled Welcome to the Catholic Church, from Harmony Media.

There are a total of 128 homilies. You can also find the documents on a marvelous CD titled Welcome to the Catholic Church, from Harmony Media.
I also invite you to visit Meg Jaworowski's bible study class which can be found at http://www.catholicbiblebootcamp.com and http://catholicbiblebootcamp.podomatic.com.

I have gone through Part 1 of Theology of the Body, which goes through July 21, 1982, and have listed at the beginning of the document the definition of Theology of the Body from JPII and the major themes in Part I that I will focus on during class. Given the limitations of time and the amount of material we would like to cover, and the difficulties of some of the philosophical language in this work, especially for those who have not studied philosophy, I have bolded the parts that bring out the conclusory ideas I plan to focus on during class.

We are now engaged in a study of John Paul II’s Theology of the Body. This first introductory session is discussing the paper I posted on Sacramental Marriage and the Eucharist. The texts of John Paul II’s Theology of the Body can be retrieved at http://www.ewtn.com. There are 128 individual files, each of them short teachings John Paul gave during his Wednesday audiences. Go to the document library and do a search on Theology of the Body. You can also find it on the marvelous CD Welcome to the Catholic Church, which I highly recommend.

Please invite your friends to join us. Please also take time to explore our new blog, God and Politics, at http://drjimphdesq.blogspot.com/

I also invite you to visit Meg Jaworowski's bible study class which can be found at http://www.catholicbiblebootcamp.com and http://catholicbiblebootcamp.podomatic.com.

Intro class for Theology of the Body

Our Summer study will be on the Theology of the Body. We will be using the homilies of John Paul II given during his Wednesday audiences. This introductory class is a reflection on Sacramental Marriage. This Word file is the document we will be discussing in this first lesson.
As always, I invite your comment.
You can get the Theology of the Body documents free from the EWTN website. Just go to http://www.ewtn.com, and do a library search on Theology of the Body. You will find the homilies of John Paul II posted there. Each is fairly short, and there are a total of 128 files. I expect we will cover multiple files each class.
