1st Letter of Peter - Class 5
January 22, 2012 04:12 PM PST
Welcome to Catholic apologetics, led by Dr. Jim Dobbins, Author of Take My Hand: A personal retreat companion. This is a podcast of classes we hold each week as part of our Catholic adult education program. Just finished an RCIA program? This is the next stop on your faith journey. In these classes we look at the different truths of Catholic doctrine and why we know they are true. We also discuss apologetics, spiritual growth, examine the liturgy of the Catholic Mass and do scripture studies. Please encourage your friends to listen. I also encourage you to leave a comment about our podcasts. If you want the slides or any other documents for any class, just e-mail me at jhdphd@gmail.com and I will reply with the documents attached. If you wish, I will also add you to the class materials distribution list so each time I send anything out for the class you will get it. If you are getting the class files from iTunes and would like to see the full set of available classes for download, you can see and download them all at http://yorked.podomatic.com We ask you to also consider going to http://yorked.podomatic.com and become a subscriber. It is free, helps our ratings, and thus helps us reach and help more people. We are now discussing the Letters of St. Peter in the New Testament. We are using the Ignatius Study Bible, edited by Dr. Scott Hahn, and the Navarre Bible, as our course source material. We plan to return to the book, Spiritual Combat Revisited, during Lent to discuss his chapters on Spiritual Exercises. For now, we will study St. Peter’s letters. As we go through this class, you may have many questions. Please feel free to send them to us through Podomatic, or directly to me at jhdphd@gmail.com. I also recommend you get a marvelous CD titled Welcome to the Catholic Church, from Harmony Media. This CD can also be ordered from Ignatius Press, the 101 Foundation, or from your local Catholic book store (ex: http://realcatholic.com/ in Richmond, Va). This CD is a huge treasure trove of material on the Catholic Church, including two searchable bibles, the Catechisms, Council documents, and many, many other documents. I highly recommend it, and it is a genuine bargain. Please let me know if you have any questions or if there is a particular topic you would like to see addressed. 1st Letter of Peter - Class 4

Welcome to Catholic apologetics, led by Dr. Jim Dobbins, Author of Take My Hand: A personal retreat companion. This is a podcast of classes we hold each Sunday at our parish, St. William of York, in Stafford, Virginia. Just finished an RCIA program? This is the next stop on your faith journey. I also encourage you to leave a comment about our podcasts. If you want the slides or any other documents for any class, just e-mail me at jhdphd@gmail.com and I will reply with the documents attached. If yo wish, I will also add you to the class materials distribution list so each time I send anything out for the class you will get it. If you are getting the class files from iTunes and would like to see the full set of available classes for download, you can see and download them all at http://yorked.podomatic.com We ask you to also consider going to http://yorked.podomatic.com and become a subscriber. This is a podcast of classes we hold each Sunday at our parish, St. William of York, in Stafford, Virginia. Just finished an RCIA program? This is the next stop on your faith journey. It is free, helps our ratings, and thus helps us reach and help more people. We have begun a new series on various topics in Apologetics. Before we took our Summer break, I asked people to send in Apologetics topics they would like us to address. I received many topics and in this new series we address those topics. We are currently discussing the new book, Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist, by Dr. Brant Pitre. This is a podcast of class we hold each Sunday after the 5:00PM Mass at our parish, St. William of York, in Stafford, Virginia. Just finished an RCIA program? This is the next stop on your faith journey. A lot has been going on with regard to the liturgy. Pope Benedict issued his encyclical on the Extraordinary form of the Mass, making it available to everyone, and the new missal for the Ordinary form of the Mass will be issued soon. Because of the importance of this topic, I decided to provide this lesson series on the views of Pope Benedict on the Mass. This is part 3 of a re-delivery of the class we did on the mind of Pope Benedict and his views on the liturgy before we started recording classes and publishing our podcasts. I wanted our internet listeners to have the benefit of this class. Because the in-house members of the class have already been through this class, I hope you will forgive their absence in this series. Benedict and the Liturgy Class 2

This is a podcast of class we hold each Sunday after the 5:00PM Mass at our parish, St. William of York, in Stafford, Virginia. Just finished an RCIA program? This is the next stop on your faith journey. In these classes we look at the different truths of Catholic doctrine and why we know they are true. We also discuss spiritual growth, examine the liturgy of the Catholic Mass and do scripture studies. Please encourage your friends to listen. I also encourage you to leave a comment about our podcasts. I post any related document files, such as slides or other documents, which can be downloaded from our web site at http://yorked.podomatic.com. We are now discussing the Diary of St. Faustina. Because the Diary is too large to really do a complete study, we will use the Concordance to pick topics and discuss what the Diary says about those topics. You can order the Diary of St. Faustina and the Concordance from the Divine Mercy Center in Stockbridge, MA, or from an on-line Catholic Book Store like the one for which a link is provided in the next paragraph. I also recommend you get a marvelous CD titled Welcome to the Catholic Church, from Harmony Media. This CD can be ordered from Ignatius Press, the 101 Foundation, or from your local Catholic book store (ex: http://realcatholic.com/ in Richmond, Va). This CD is a huge treasure trove of material on the Catholic Church, including two searchable bibles, the Catechisms, Council documents, and many, many other documents. I highly recommend it, and it is a genuine bargain.
I also invite you to visit Meg Jaworowski's bible study class which can be found at http://www.catholicbiblebootcamp.com and http://catholicbiblebootcamp.podomatic.com. Please let me know if you have any questions or if there is a particular topic you would like to see addressed. Diary of St. Faustina Class 4

Welcome to Catholic apologetics, led by Dr. Jim Dobbins, Author of Take My Hand: A personal retreat companion. This is a class we hold each week at our parish. Just finished an RCIA program? This is the next stop on your faith journey. Please note that in this class I borrowed a recorder because I forgot mine, and about 25 minutes into the class it ran out of memory, so we had to stop and delete some files and start again. Therefore, there may be a discontinuity at some point in the class, but it is not you or your system, it was our fault. In these classes we look at the different truths of Catholic doctrine and why we know they are true. We also discuss spiritual growth, examine the liturgy of the Catholic Mass and do scripture studies. Please encourage your friends to listen. I had previously removed several of our older podcasts because I had reached the PodOmatic storage space limit. PodOmatic recently introduced a new level of service which provides a limit of 15 Gig of storage instead of 5 Gig. I subscribed to that service so I am now beginning to re-post some of our previous lessons that I had removed.

Welcome to Catholic apologetics, led by Dr. Jim Dobbins, Author of Take My Hand: A personal retreat companion. In these classes we look at the different truths of Catholic doctrine and why we know they are true. We also discuss spiritual growth, examine the liturgy of the Catholic Mass and do scripture studies. Please encourage your friends to listen. I also encourage you to leave a comment about our podcasts. I post any related document files, which can be downloaded from our web site at http://yorked.podomatic.com. We are now discussing the blueprint for sainthood given to us by Jesus. Throughout the four gospels, He told us what we must do. If we do what Jesus said to do, we will have our path to sainthood laid out for us. What He told us to do is collected in the document “What Jesus Said To Do”, which has already been uploaded. This document will be th basis for our discussions for this series of classes. I recommend you get a marvelous CD titled Welcome to the Catholic Church, from Harmony Media.
This is the second of our daily mercy minutes. I encourage you to get the diary of St. Faustina, Divine Mercy in My Soul, and read it daily as part of your Lenten spiritual works. Mercy Minute 01
February 22, 2009 01:45 PM PST
As we enter and proceed through the season of Lent, I plan to post what I call a Mercy Minute each day from now at least through Divine Mercy Sunday. These Mercy Minutes are short readings, usually a minute or so, or less, taken from the Diary of St. Faustina Kowalska, Divine Mercy In My Soul. This book has literally changed lives, and I have personally seen that happen in friends of mine. I hope and pray that these short excerpts from the diary will encourage you to get the book and delve into the full benefits and mysteries of Our Lord’s Divine Mercy. You really do owe it to yourself. Dr. Jim Dobbins Blueprint for Sainthood Class 1
